For a change, here's something that's genuinely just a diary entry.
A friend of mine almost exclusively wears T-shirts picked up at Tanpopo House—a thrift shop where you can buy clothes for around ¥100. We decided to help him find some new shirts, so a group of us headed to an unmanned thrift store late at night.
There we were, wandering into the shop together.
There's something comforting about finding a store still glowing in the middle of the night, even if it's not a convenience store. The fact that there isn't even a clerk makes the whole experience feel wonderfully low-pressure.
We leisurely browsed through racks of ¥500 clothing. One of my friend's favorite T-shirts, which he'd bought for just ¥100 at Tanpopo House, turned out to be from a brand that originally retailed for around ¥10,000. He's got a real eye for secondhand finds.
Then, on the community message board, there was somehow a note from Rie Shibata herself!?
"I want some creepy T-shirts." For some reason, she sounds like Hanamichi Sakuragi. Another note read, "Please stock Dragon Ball!! Thank you!!" It has a certain charm to it. I wonder if they ever did.
For some reason, one of the cardboard boxes was labeled Kud Wafter.
"Wafu!"
Just what kind of journey did a cardboard box originally meant for Kud Wafter take before ending up in a thrift store? Now that's what I want to know.
In the end, my friend bought three Splatoon T-shirts for ¥1,500. Apparently, he's never even played Splatoon. It really drives home how stylish those squid designs are—they somehow look good on anyone. Watching my friend proudly score such a bargain made me strangely proud too.
Time to head home.
