　At last, Synth-chan’s（TechnoPop-Yuuki-Synthesizer-chan） second track has arrived. Funny enough, it was actually produced before the first one. I’d started it before teaming up with Haraguchi and the others, and after a lot of thinking—okay, let’s start here—it turned into a surprising song where I somehow ended up getting in touch with the legendary Osawa.

In this track, the lyrics are stripped of meaning even more than on the first song, “Electric Mirage Kanjo.”

　Synth-chan began as my curiosity about a simple question: what even is techno?—and the trial and error that came from chasing that. And beyond that: what even is music?

　Music exists to let sound be heard. And if electronics are simply the means to produce and play those sounds, then what does “lyrics” mean in that context?

　Among the music data Osawa sent me, there was a file where a Vocaloid voice was making random sounds—something to use as a reference for the melody. As I looped it again and again while writing, I started to feel like the very sounds Osawa had placed most plainly—just to make the melody easier to grasp—might actually be the most pleasant, as rhythm.

　Music began with religion. Hallelujah, hallelujah—sound was layered onto important phrases to spread God’s words more effectively. In that sense, music was something where lyrics came first. This time, I’m doing the opposite: the lyrics exist so you can sink into the rhythm.

　I fit words to the sounds exactly as I heard them, and before I knew it, the opening became me・愛・ラ・sun・虫—placing the words one by one. As I kept working and refined the overall nuance, the lyrics gradually began to grow a faint sense of meaning. That’s probably the part that becomes Synth-chan’s signature.

　In the end, the lyrics were written almost entirely on top of that demo vocal, so it ended up being credited as if Osawa and I co-wrote them together. I’m honestly humbled.

　Now that we’ve got an actual music artist on our hands, from here on I want to keep digging into the true nature of techno from every angle—together with CDs, led by Haraguchi.

　Next month, we’re holding a techno DJ event—with my friend Aiobahn joining too.

Haraguchi and I used to talk about how, someday,
we’d love to buy an abandoned factory and run a venue
where we do nothing but blast techno all day.
Through Synth-chan, that dream has come true—just a little.
